I was thinking, spiders look at your webpage code when spidering your site right? Does this mean that the keywords should be placed as near to the top of the coding as possible? Simple example: Should the block of keyword rich content be moved above the code for the horizontal rule in this case? Would this improve SEO in any shape or form as the keywords are closer to the top of the coding for the page? Thanks
It won't matter that much I don't think. Focus on getting your keywords in your domain/url, title tag, and anchor text in outside links. I've read that using H1 tag with your keywords at the top of the page is good as well. From what I've found: MSN Loves keywords in the title tags and domains/urls and is the quickest to update. It's sandbox (the time it takes a new domain to show up in a search) is also very low if not non-existent. Yahoo loves keywords in the title tags and domains/urls for somethings and not others. Really haven't figured it out yet. Sandbox is right inbetween Google and MSN usually, but can be pretty long. Google also loves keywords in the title tags and domains/urls, but what really helps is good anchor text in your outside links. I think there's a lot more weight to the links then titles and domains for google. Of course these are just personal observations and your results may vary. -the mole
