Question about sitewide keyword use

after reading many posts and seo related books I still haven't understood the concept of the use of keywords sitewide. Meaning, I'm unclear whether using your main keyword throughout different pages withing the site is useful. I understand that your main keyword should be used on your homepage, but does it make sense to make your main keyword the main keyword throughout the different pages of the site, or should I just target newer smaller keywords in these pages? Or possibly a little bit of both.

Does it help to have your main keyword on other pages, does it affect the overall keyword count?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but I think I didn't explain myself sufficiently. As far as sitewide, I meant that if I have a main keyword I am targeting for the site (keyword placement on the content of the site), should I target that keyword on the content of other pages other than the index. Or is it better to just use it for targeting another keyword. Basically, will it help to repeat the main keyword targeted throughout the content of the whole site?

    thanks

google bot cache and cashed each and everything related to text, anchor text, keyword , description from ur web pages automatically,

generally each and every day . google bot get ur keyword in SE's database and let them index ur site which contains pertucular keyword either it exist in content or anchor text. this is all abt content

abt targeting keyword by using meta tag try to make sure that ur site shuld be related to these keywords and check ur site in keyword density related tools. according to density site makes their placement in SE index

this is not imp to set keyword for each and every pages in your site(must be in home page or every gateway pages like:inner main pages), but relevant content and external link's relevant anchor text bring ur site at top desire keyword search.

OK, thanks for the thorough reply, so from what I have taken, that the main keyword should be targeted through all the content in the site? Thanks

If you use the main keyword of your site in your inner pages it couldn't do harm for you) Otherwise search engines give (usually as they are changing techniques all the time) priority to those sites that contain main keyword in the inner pages.

Actually, if you have links to all your pages from your landing or main page, it is wise to use other key words that relate to your site on the other pages. For instance on your main page is the keyword "make money at home" and that is your page title.. then you can make duplicates of that page and name them.. "extra money from home" and use that as a key word... another .. "fast cash" and title the page that, do a small amount of page editing so you have your secondary or third keyword predominent on the page it is titled for.. then when a search engine spiders your main page, it will follow your links to your other pages and you will find it picks up the other key words and relates them to your site. This can help you with your rankings especially if you get folks to link to you using your various key word phrases.

    HUH?

A site wide link is just that, it appears on all pages of your site, like a nav block in your footer.

Read this, it will help explain things a little better
http://forums.seroundtable.com/showthread.php?t=713 those folks know what they are talking about.

    hope that helps,
