question about selling plugins for 3rd party applications

    if i was for example to make a plugin for say internet explorer do i have to ask for permission from microsoft?... or can i just make and sell plugins for what ever i want?

    does anybody know? just interested if i need permission from microsoft to make a plugin for internet explorer...sorry if this seems like a stupid question ...
