Question about selling links

I’m about to start selling links on my sites, now that they actually have a PR. I was wondering what an acceptable number of links to sell is. How many is too many? When does G start eyeballing your site for excessive links?

I would never sell more then 20-25 links on any one page. Anymore looks a bit spammy.

Wow! 20-25 is very high. Try to stick to under 15, seriously. Even 15 looks spammy to me. A good limit is 8, but I think 15 is about the highest I would go.

Another issue is the relevancy of the links. If your selling 20 related text link ads, this isn't so bad as it's seen as legit advertising. Sellling 20 non related ads looks very spammy on the other hand...

I don't know, relevancy is what? I keep seeing Computer/Internet as a category, how about People/Words, it's just so vague. Maybe I am not a good judge, and I don't know that any bot can do better? Ray Kurzweil may have another opinion -- http://www.kurzweilai.net/

    >> relevancy is what?

A good guide is DMOZ categories. How many clicks do you need to get from a category where your page would be listed to a category where the destination page would be listed. The more clicks the lower the relevancy.

There is also the http://www.touchgraph.com/ to help you determine relevance.
