Blogger is really easy to use because everything is basically setup for you. Is self-hosting a Wordpress blog just like that? Is there an Admin Control Panel or something? Or must you make everything yourself? For example, if I wanted to use a custom Wordpress template. Would I be able to just download it and install it to my Wordpress blog within seconds? Or would I have to manually install all the files one by one (or by FTP)?
If u want to use custom WP theme, u have to downloaded it from theme site, upload to your server via FTP (it's easy, ), then activate the theme from your wordpress dashboard.
Hi, Although WordPress admin interface is pretty easy yet powerful, with a self-hosted blog, you'll have to care about things like security, upgrades, performance, etc. (something that you never worry about on hosted platforms like Blogger and WordPress.com)
With a "self hosted" WordPress blog, you'll have more control over your features, plugins, themes, content, and so forth. There is always that downside of site maintenance, backing up, updating, buying a domain and host to host it, and so forth though. But really, it does sure beat a hosted blog like (WordPress.com) though... I guess it's all personal preference. I actually love having my own "self hosted" blog and having control over it. Especially if you use SVN to install it and upgrade it. I updated 10 different blogs on 10 different domains within minutes, using SVN. But again, it's all personal preference really. Hope this helps!
Hey Mechpoint, let me know if I can help you with the self-hosted wordpress blog. I can guide you through the set up easily using MSN. Dan
Go for hosting WP yourself. I won't take you that long to figure it out and there are tons of instructions, guides, add-ons, etc out there.
I agree with micksss, there's A LOT of guides or people like domainloco.net and myself that would be willing to help you set up a self-hosted WordPress blog. I've done over a 100 free WordPress installations, as well as helping out in their support forums. I was a moderator in their support forums a while back.
The Wordpress admin panel is good. Things like activating themes and plugins can be done with a single click ) after uploading them via FTP ) If you have any issues, post here. We'd be more than happy to help you out.
