I am building a website right now that has a solid background image for the background. The image is non-repeated, and I don't want it cut off. Does Firefox or IE 8/7 have a max resolution size? I don't want customers with super huge resolutions to see the image being cut off.
AFAIK the browser don't have max res. I guess you'd want to go with the maximum screen resolution available on the market ( 20000++ ? ) , however doing that'll make your image have a very big file size. If it were me i'll go with 1600px wide ( the popular big width imo, cmiiw ), so it'll handle most of the user ( accommodating users with 1600px width or less ), with assumption that user with very big screen size usually wouldn't go browsing with maximized browser window ( I've read it somewhere on Jakob Nielsen's article if i'm not wrong ) .
Alright thanks! 1600 sounds good. I didn't want to have to use flash, so I know taking a huge image like 4000px x 3000px would look terrible on a screen that is 1240px wide like mine. I think what I will do is fade the edges of the photo to blend in with a backgound color, that way the users with large screens won't see a cut-off
I have no idea yet, because I haven't even contacted the photographer yet anyways. I'm guessing he shoots in highquality format, so probably 10mb at like 8000px by 6000px (I guess it really depends on the PSI). The other thing that is being loaded is a nav bar and a pretty simple box that will allow users to sign up for a newsletter. It's almost like a splash page that I'm imagining.
