I should know the answer to this but I'm not sure so here's the question: I just regged cyberbilt.info, cyberbilt.net, cyberbilt.org, and cyberbilt.biz After registering all domains, I forwarded each (301 redirect) to cyberbilt.com. Is there any consequence here? Is there a better way to map all domains to Cyberbilt? Guidence from those who know is appreciated Thanks, Tim
I don't think their is any consequence to doing that, I actually have been told that you should always 301 http: //yoursite.com to www .yoursite.com so you don't waste any links. btw how do you do a 301 redirect?
I'm not terribly familiar w/ the process. I know "basically" what it does but I'm a long way from an expert. When doing some reading on the subject I found that the domain being redirect TO inherits the pagerank from the domain being directed FROM. If that's the case then I need to change my course of action....quick! I'm at a loss because my host wont allow me to park the domains unless I upgrade to a VPS which is in the plans but not just yet.
I am not sure in your case there is an advantage to redirecting these domains unless you expect type-in traffic? Anyways hopefully a member with more knowledge than you and I will come along and set us straight. Btw, what host are you with and why won't they allow you to have parked pages for those sites?
Try the forum at Webworkshop . You shoud get some good advice there. I think it depends on how you use the redirects and why but its beyond me.
Yes you should 301 your brand domains to your primary site and this will not have a negative impact. Your PR and link juice will pass to your primary site but this would be irrelevant in your case as you have just registered the domains and they will not have PR nor link juice. This Whiteboard Friday video has further information on what and how you should handle 301's. It also links to some guides about how to do it within the various servers.
Thanks SilkySmooth. So the brand domains only PASS pr and not replace the pr currently in place... Good info...thanks for the help
Yes, you can't replace PR otherwise everyone would be redirecting spam domains at each other trying to pass negative effects onto competitors.
Don't feel too bad, I was asking the same questions myself a few days ago, just passing on what I learnt
