I have a local business directory type website. If a local business puts a link to my site on their website, and I have a link to their site through their business directory listing, is that going to cause me seo problems? 1. Will google consider that a reciprocal link? Each business in the business directory on my site is on it's own separate subpage- no page full of links. 2. Since the incoming backlinks to my site would be on sites related to my topic, would it be worth it even if google sees it as a reciprocal? 3. Should I not ask sites in my business directory to link back to me because it may effect my serp? Thanks
I know that one way links are more powerful. But I'm trying to figure out if it will do more harm than good if someone in my business directory links back to me. Can reciprocals hurt you? Or do they have a null effect?
Reciprocal links are considered to be much more decent that one way links since, with paid links issues, one way links are more suspicious for that-so reciprocal is better of the two-my 2 cents
@ cashisfilthitakecheck: Yes, indeed. But most of the big companies have one way links because users like the program/service so much that they link from their sites. I guess this means that Google can't penalize websites just because of the one way links. I believe that they have a complex algorythm that analyzes if the one way link is really that or just a bought link. @ the others: I guess u missundaztood. The question here is, what if the user likes the directory so much that he puts a stand alone link to tell the others about that service? Will that do any arm the ranking/serps of the directory?
