Hi, I'd really appreciate some SEO advice. Over 3 or 4 years I have developed a site with information about hypnosis: http://www.hypnosisandsuggestion.org It contains lots of unique content, and I try to write regular updates. It gets about 100 visitors a day. It ranks well in google for keywords "hypnosis suggestion" (words that are in my domain), but it doesn't appear in the top 10 pages for "hypnosis". The bit that confuses me is that I recently built a quick site that lets you compare hypnosis courses. http://www.hypnosistraininguk.com It is not updated regularly, barely gets any visitors (<1 per day) and does not have many inbound links, yet it appears in the top 10 pages of google results for "hypnosis". What am I doing wrong with my first site? I know the keyword 'hypnosis' is quite competitive, but I'm writing original content and really don't understand why my information site ranks so low. I would really appreciate any pointers people can give me. Thanks, Matthew
I checked the google uk site and I don't see http://www.hypnosistraininguk.com ranking. The term "hypnosis suggestion" is searched less than 10 times a month in the uk so a top ten ranking won't give you much traffic. While it is nice to have nice content (which you do have and a nice easy to read site). Incoming links are one of the biggest factors of ranking well. Your website has almost no outside links pointing to it while your competitors in the top ten for "hypnosis" have thousands of links. In a nutshell you need more links pointing to your site. Use the adwords keyword tool https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/KeywordToolExternal to find how many people are actively searching for the keywords you are targeting, make sure you select the exact match on the left. Your second site, http://www.hypnosistraininguk.com, I see you are doing some link building, but all the links are from links pages on other websites. Not exactly the best source of links.
