Question about Randomly Updating Content for Google PR

Hello, I have a question about optimizing sites for Google. I know that Google likes sites that are updated frequently, so I wanted to ask a particular question.

I noticed that Facebook randomly selects four friends to show up on each person's profile page. Another example would be Posterous.com which also randomly displays four of their most active users on the homepage.

Is this done for Google and does anyone know if this works?

maybe yes, maybe not.. most online networking sites works that way.. and since they get more popular and lost of people rant about it.. google consider them as well established site... so SEs bots get crawled those site pages more often..

If you want my honest advice about this question ?

Simply build your website for what is really helpful for your OWN website visitors and search engines will follow, no need to mention after all that it's all about backlinks at the end of the day ;)
