The only benefit is the age I think. A 2 year old domain is much better than a 2 month old domain.

If the domain gets good type-in traffic you can generate PPC revenue by parking it, but I never suggest this.

benefits of parked domain vs unknown host or page not found
    1) possibly some parking revenues from ad clicks
    2) "this domain is for sale" link with bid submission form (e.g. at sedo)

drawbacks of parked doamin vs. developed site:
    1) search engines usually do not send any traffic to a parkd domain and do not index it past the first page, thus absolutely no traffic except type-in
    2) the value of click on parked page is usaually lower than on a website
    3) most people do know ho parked page look like and go away (100% bounce rate)

Parking only really works well if you have large numbers of domain names with type on traffic or they are in a sector that has a high cpc eg finance

When you register a domain name, you must have it parked on a server. These are computers connected to the internet which at any time know where your domain is located. Usually your domain name is parked on a server and develop an under construction page and put it up on a server also saying that this site belongs to the owner and is currently under construction. This is known as domain parking.
