I am running two ads to determine the relative appeal of one word I am changing in my marketing. The two ads are identical except for the one word. But I am not sure how to interpret the results. Could someone give me some idea of how to interpret this? The click through rate implies that "ad group one" is doing better, but I just want to make sure, and also I don't know what the "position" means, hence the uncertaintly. I'm attaching the results of the two ads below. "ad group one" and "ad group two"
They are both on the same position, 3rd from the top. There are 10 position slots to be in the first page. So being on the 3rd position is really good.
Thank you for your help. OK, so given that, is it safe to say that "ad group one" is performing the better of the two?
No. Other factor like CTR (click through rate) and average CPC also matters. Ad #2's 1.47% CTR is really good. I hope those clicks does convert, or every penny spent is wasted.
Position is average position and is the average position that your ads are showing. It doesn't mean you show at position 3.1 all the time, there is no position 3.1 for one thing. You could show in first position at times, sixth at others but most of your impressions are centered around the third where you probably show 70% of the time. As both your ads are showing at about the same position, it makes it easier to compare. What you have to look at is CTR. The ad with a 1.41% CTR is much better than the one at 0.33%. That's the one you want to keep. Yes, sometimes a small change, even one word, can produce a large result. You should also weigh the conversion rate but given that one ad is getting over four times the click rate, that outweighs the conversion rate, unless it's four times on the other ad which is highly doubtful. The previous comment of 10 slots on the page is wrong. I think he may have been talking about organic listings. For the sponsored results on Google, there can be 0 to 3 ads above the organics and up to 8 on the right side so there could be up to 11 ads on the page.
My ad for the last few days has not been getting any impressions. It went from several thousand per day to zero per day. I didn't change anything so I don't know what happened, or what to do to get it active again. I have it set to 'default bid' "Auto".
