Maybe this is a dumb question, but i have never used flash banners until now. So, I have a flash banner that is linked to site 'B' and I placed it on 'A'. I clicked the banner to test it and it worked - of course. Later I checked my awstats. The visit did not show up in the referrals list. So my question is this - Is there no way for our stats to be able to track visits from a flash banner? Also, I had assumed that the SE's could not follow the link in a flash banner. Is that true?
Search engines don't normally spider Flash. Can you add a tracking parameter to the link? eg site.com/index.php?id=123
As far as I know the SE bots do not follow flash. But what I am wondering is whether or not traffic arriving from a flash banner should show up in awstats.
I believe when you click a flash and a new window opens it does not pass the HTTP_REFERER info to the new window. That's why such clicks do not show up in your stats. As to search engines I'm pretty sure they do not recognize flash, nor do they follow links embedded. This feature would use too much of SE's system recourses.
