I wanted to know if you pay for a service and it creates a bunch of links will you get a penelty for a bunch of links at once?
Search engines do not like to see a huge sudden junp in the number of backlinks, but if those links are spread over a number of sites then it might take them a while to find them all. Cryo.
Buying backlink-building service does not necessary mean you get all the links at once, a serious company would increase the number of backlinks gradually. The exact number of new backlinks that would create a penalty is not known, anyhow I suppose that creation of new links at a pace of some dozens (up to 50) per day for two or three weeks would not do harm to your website, if the anchor text would be varying (I would recommend around 100 anchor text variations for 1000 backlinks to be on the safe side).
well I just started using the co-op network here, and I imagine my backlinks jumped quite a bit I hope I don't get penalized for it
Depends on many factors, but on a new website having a sudden jump of unnatural links will make you look like spam, on an older domain they can take more of a hit but then again on an older domain with some aged backlinks you don't need huge IBL numbers.
yup, agree with xaver, professional companies know this rule, sudden high increase in back link could give your website red flag to search engine, that's why I use several anchor text when submitting to directories using semi-automatic tools
Its all about the percentages. If you have 1000 links and suddenly get 9,000 low quality ones it means that 90% of your links are now low quality. No matter which way you look at it thats never going to help long term.
If we use common sense we know that if a site suddenly gets naturally popular it will get many links in a short period of time. It would be very strange and not logical at all if Google gave penalty to that site because it is getting popular. Then the next thing google would look at is relevancy of the page the link is comming from, if they then see that a recipe site is getting a lot of links from finance, car or hair dresser sites they could give the site a penalty. This is common sense I think and google are trying to follow common sense to the best of their ability.
