Currently my landing page mainly serves purpose to aquire basic company contact info in order to contact them with more information on my service and get them setup with a free trial which they are made aware of on the landing page. The contact form is below the fold - how big of a facor does that play in conversions? I do mention in the text above the fold that they need to fill out the contact form below and we will contact them about getting their free trial started. But they need to scroll down in order to see the contact form.
The only true way to find out is to split test 2 landing pages. However, as a general rule you want any action to be above the fold. You might only have a few seconds to capture the attention of your visitor so choose your sales copy wisely.
if you want visitors to take an action, then it should be above the fold. too much white space above the fold or sales pitch below the fold lacks call to action and your conversion will be low.
I have found in my tests that above the fold yields more conversions. Further, the more fields you request completed, the less likely the user will convert. Short and sweet.
You'll be surprised how many people are too lazy to hit the scroll bar. Best to keep the CTA above the fold for better conversions.
