    Hi guys,

What are your thoughts on allowing paid writers to show their author name with the blog/articles they contributed to on an ezine site? Do you advise on keeping them as ghost writers?

    My thoughts:

Positive: they writers are more excited and might brag on other sites and/or contribute via comments.

Negative: People might get used to one particular author, or build a community around that author… it makes you reliant on that person. Also, competitiors could find the author's contact info and look to hire them for their own site.

    Thanks.

That depends on what you mean by an ezine site.

Are you looking for just generic content to earn some ad revenue, or are you looking for your site to become an authority site in your niche?

If you just want generic content, a byline won't affect too much. If you want to be looked at by visitors as an authority source, it's a good idea to work with expert writers in the niche, and to take advantage of their name by giving them a byline. Sure, it's better for them, but it's also better for you - If you ran a medical site for example, readers will trust articles with a byline from an MD over an article posted simply by you or with no byline at all - it's the trust factor you need to think about.

It also depends on what you're buying. If you're not paying for the full copyright, you don't have the right to remove their name or list your own. If you do pay for the full copyright, you can remove it. Again it goes back to the type of site you're running though. A lot of general writers will sell off the full copyright without thinking twice about it. Those on the higher end that would be specialized experts in a niche are more likely to sell individual rights such as first rights or Web-exclusive rights, meaning you won't own the copyright and you can't remove the byline. There are obviously exceptions in both cases, but those are things you need to consider.
