Question about IMG alt attribute

    I know that all images need to have an alt attribute.

    Does having valid descriptive text help for SERPs?

    Yes, on pages that have little text the alts will often show in the text of the serps.

    You alt text whenever possible. It helps.

    Not all images need it, just those that link to something. Accurate descriptions, with keywords are a must.

    For all major images on a page, they should have the Alt attribute fill in with the keyword phrase.

    GotWebHost is spot on. Alt tags are for accessibility related matters really but you also want to use them where you can't have anchor text.
