Question about images on my site.

    Hi, I was wondering if i change the gifs to jpgs on the first page of my site, will it still load up the same? the gifs are 14k and then i change to jpg they are 3k
    Would it not even matter?
    Any input would be great

    That slight size difference probably won't mean a lot, in terms of how long it takes for your page to load, unless of course you're talking about hundreds of images.

    The thing you do want to consider relative to the image formats is this. .JPGs were arrived at for photographs, therefore, that's what they display best as far as quality goes. .GIFs on the other hand are great for web images, clipart, e.g., the smilies on this forum, etc..

    When it comes to headers or masts for sites, I really like the .PNG format. It keeps the color and overall high quality of the image while maintaining a workable 'weight' size.

    thanks for the reply Knight,
    There arent very many pics on the front of my page. And I was thinking .png but I read somewhere it doesnt work on IE6? Maybe I read wrong? said something about transperacy?

    I've not read anything relative to a transparency problem with .PNGs. And I've not experienced a problem with them in any browser or version of any broswer for that matter.
