Question about how to choose a better domain

I've always been told that when choosing a domain their isn't a difference in search engine preference between the following:

    www.mykeyphrasehere.com
    or
    www.my-keyphrasehere.com
    or
    www.my-key-phrase-here.com

Would the all be the same SEO wise, or would a search engine favor one or the other?

I would suggest the first one.

    Thanks,

I do agree that the first option is best but will the search engines still give it "credit" for having my keywords in my domain or will it not treat them the same?

my friend seoexpertahmedabad, you are no expert..

do not use domains with dashes, they are hard to rank, domains without dashes will always outrank them (unless you have an insane quantity of quality links), plus, domain without dashes are more brandable and will not confuse your users.

How about using another word, not in your keyword phrase, to make the domain work.

    For example,

Lets say my long tailed search phrase is buy sporty shoes, obviously www.buysportyshoes.com is the best domain option. However, would www.buysportyshoeshere.com do just as well with the search engines because it contains the complete search phrase or will it still be negatively hit as using dashes is?

Thanks for all the input thus far guys!

I TOTALLY agree w/ funky... In addition, I just think domains w/ dashes also look unprofessional and illegitimate much like domains w/ .biz, .info or other non-.com TLDs.

If first one available, then choose that. If not the Third one would be best for SEO purpose. Thanks

    Thanks guys,

I'm getting a few different oppinions and appreciate all of them, so thanks.

Can anyone tell me for sure if using dashes will not lessen its keyword value in the search engines? I do understand the first choice is for sure the best option but will using the dashes harm my sites seo ability.

    Try the following steps

Step #1: Pick a topic you're "irrationally passionate" about.

Step #21: Boil the topic down to one word.

Step #3: Check Google's keyword tool to determine what people are typing in to find information on that topic.

Step #4: Pick a keyword to focus on that has at least 30,000 searches, no more than 300,000 - just a rule of thumb.

Step #5: Pick a dot COM domain name with that keyword in it.

Step #6: Register the dot COM and dot ORG version of the domain name.

hope u can choose your best domain!:)

I've read that it's preferable to have no dashes or other characters in the domain name, since the search engines can usually make out the different words anyway. But sometimes the combination of letters could convey a different set of words, or be impossible for the search engines to read. Then you might need dashes to make things clear.

Also, remember that dashes in domain names make them very hard to say (and remember when heard). Word of mouth is a good way to get your site known, so this is definitely something to consider when choosing a domain name.

As a user you feel to use domain name with out dashes to easily remember. The same way the search engines also find it easy without dashes. So better go without using dashes.
