Question about harsh ban

I just came back online after being banned for 7 days, but I had no idea why, and couldn't ask any questions while I was banned.

I was responding to a post to sell an article posting service, and I posted something like "I am interested. Please PM me the details and include a link to this thread."

The only infraction I could find was that this may be considered "bumping", however it was not my thread and I would have nothing to gain by "bumping. I just wanted more info about an offer.

Prior to this ban, this would be the typical way I would inquire about a service. This seems like it is no longer acceptable. Before I make any more posts, could a moderator please confirm if a post of this type would cause a ban, and if so, what sort of post would be acceptable to find more information?

With respect, I think a warning would have been more appropriate than a 7 day total ban. I appreciate your reply. Thank you,

Your answers about bumping threads can be found in this thread:

The thread is already a stickie, and the rules about "not bumping" have been forum policy for a long time, so we don't believe it necessary to warn or remind members of clearly posted policies. Thanks.
