Question about Google's results page for a specific query

Just on a whim, I decided to do a search for "GOOG options" on Google. Here is my results:

    RESULTS

I found it somewhat amusing that Yahoo, MSN, and a host of other sites ranked higher on the results page than Google's own options page.

Up until now, I've been focused mostly on backlinks to my root domain. I've not done any links to content pages. This is something I feel I need to rectify.

So... how would I go about improving my search engine rankings for "**** options"? **** is a wildcard for every ticker symbol that happens to have options (roughly 3000 of them)? Do I need to work just as diligently on backlinks with that anchor text as I do with my root domain? Or is there a simpler answer?

There's not a simplier answer. You would need separate backlinks with those 3000 tickers in them. That's no easy task and especially considering that you would want to have them from as many different sources as possible.

Thanks for the reply. Was expected that to be the answer, but was hoping for something different.
