How does google choose which informatino is an alert? Do they only take informatino from "athority" sites?
i use google alerts to email when they find any site with my sites.. great way to know what content and pages they find
I do the same as bloodwrath. I also use them for breaking news about mental health and psychology/psychiatry. They seem to pull them from press releases, news portals, journal announcements, university announcements, etc., etc., but as GFC says presumably they are all being funneled through Google News.
They yield roughly the same results as a keyword search on Google News - for news alerts. For site results, I think they kick out new sites in the top 100 or 200 for a keyword search.
One observation: when Google is doing one of it's so-called backlinks updates I'll see a flurry of Google alerts for my sites showing "new" backlinks. Does that mean these are links to pages moving into a certain range, as nevetS suggests? Not sure but I'll keep an eye on that in future to see whether a pattern emerges...
The Google Alert is one tool i really enjoy spamming me For each IBL update, i received alerts about some websites, that did not appeared in link: results for several days.
To add, the reason that's my guess is because I was subscribed to an alert, got a site into Google news on the same topic, then started seeing my pages/news in the Google alert I don't know that all alerts come from the news but I'm 99.9% sure some of them do
That's the link. Getting into Google News is a manual process and can take some time for a response...one way or the other. Come to think of it I've actually never received a denied e-mail, only the approval one.
u can have google alerts for the WEB & NEWS or both i have it set for both.. that way i make sure i get emails about all my links
Come on, give me some tips! Do you have to work for a "news organization" to get your pages spidered for news output? What are some ways to get in....?
You have to send them your site and they review it. It's not an automated inclusion process so expect that an actual human will look at your site and make the call on inclusion...one way or the other.
