question, ive read around that googles crawler crawls sites once every week or 2. how do other sites get their news articles listed in google the day its published? sites like engadget.

my next question, what is a number of search results returned from google that is considered to be too many, average, and tight? i mean, if you had an idea of a site, but realized that when typing in keywords about your topic, 500 million records return, would it be a poor choice to continue to develop?

    thanks!

Some combinations of your keywords are better rated in searches. you cannot test ´em all.

If you have a few uniques per day, it means that ppl will find your site.
If it does not increase. You maybe should consider changing subject.

Engadget is what Google considers an authority site. It is a PR8 site and therefore Google will add it's pages to the index faster. It takes a tonne of linkbuilding to get your site to PR8 level.

Google discovers, on it's own, about how frequently a site is updated and adjusts it's crawling frequency for that site accordingly. If it discovers that a site's content changes every day, it may crawl that site at least once per day, or more.
