for my site my google webmaster is to the US, since we only provide our service there. However, we want to expand to canada. we do not want to change the geotargeting preference because we will lose some of our Core rankings in the US. What is the solution with keeping the US geotargeting in webmasters and appearing on google.ca???? Should we create oursite.ca and permanently redirect it to our main .com site? How do you think google organic rankings will see this?
I suppose you can create a directory structure to your site xyz.com/canada. Have some pages to this directory structure. create another xml sitemap of those pages that includes pages of xyz.com/canada and submit that sitemap to Google Webmaster Tool with Geo targetting Canada... this works
thanks for the suggestion, I thought I could only geotarget whole sites in webmaster tools, not specific sitemap xml feeds?
