Hi all, I have a question about geo-targeting in Yahoo. I have a .com hosted in Canada that is ranking pretty well on Yahoo.ca, but not so well on Yahoo.com. My client wants to target the US market and pretty much abandon the Canadian market. I'm wondering what I have to do to let Yahoo know that this business is targeting the US market. In Google Webmaster Tools, I can change set the Geographic Target, but I don't see that option in Yahoo Site Explorer. Will changing to a US-based host do the trick? This company is a Canadian company with a Canadian address, so will hosting in the US make a difference? Thanks
Your extension will often appear in the country of origin before .com search engines. You need to keep building backlinks.
It will not give magic results, but it will help. Another thing to try is to get links from .com sites.
Come to think of it, Yahoo does not have a geographic target just like Google. Maybe one day they will have that feature as well but I guess the US hosting should help significantly.
Thanks for this. Have you used this tactic in the past? I think I'll give it a shot in the January and see what happens.
So which country the links are coming from also affects the ranking for that country? I guess that makes sense, but I hadn't really heard that theory before. Thanks for the input.
That's exactly what I have to do. I'm wondering if you think changing my host country is a valid tactic.
