If I register a newly expired domain, will google see it as new or will it see it as how old it was?

I think how old it was.

I wonder about this. Is it about how long the site has been indexed or just how old the domain is. I tend to think how long the site has been indexed. But I don't have any conclusive proof just yet.

My experience has shown that if you get a domain that actually expired and was released, it will be treated as a new domain, with the new reg date. If you used SnapNames, the domain isn't actually released, so it keeps the original reg date.

If it is .com and expires and drops it will be put in the sandbox normally. From what I've heard from some clients Google seems to put those domains in a form of "quarantine"

Since the "registered on" date will be reset, I would imagine it starts all over.

This isn't always the case. See my post above for an example.

I've won several auctions for domains originally reg'd in the mid to late 90's that didn't get the "registered on" date reset. They kept their original date.

www.SnapNames.com is the site. All domains registered through NetSol and a few other registrars that expire are renewed before they drop and are then passed to SnapNames to auction off to the highest bidder. I'm currently in a 3 day auction for livecasino.com that is above $5k already and it's only the first day!
