Question about duplicate content on your site

I know that it is important to have unique content on your site (for example not using the same articles as 100 other people). However, would it make a difference if there was duplicate content on different pages within my own site?
    Thank you for your help.

It is still duplicate content....If you have the same content on multiple pages in your site....In fact I think this will get your site in more problems.

    seo_ranter is right..
once the SE found out that your site has a duplicate content it will consider as a form of spamming..
it can possibly result in penalties that can lower your SE rankings...

Oh that stinks! thanks for letting me know! I have been selling advertising and some ads are placed in up to 50 pages in the state directory.

I guess for some reason I didn't think it would matter if it was duplicate content within the same site. I have so much to learn :-/.

It wont really harm your site, but the stronger page will rank and the other wont which renders the duplicate useless.

If some pages are mostly duplicate content, those pages are likely to wind up in the supp-dex. Running some amount of non-unique text isn't automatically spam, in and of itself. Think of all the newspapers and outlet that rerun stories verbatim from AP and Reuters.

For a personal web site, I would take a few paragraphs at most, and put them inside a blockquote with a cite.
