I have always wondered why some people would pay $35 for a domain name at register.com when they can get it cheaper at GoDaddy or NameCheap. What are the pros and cons of getting domains at these discount prices? How do they still stay in business? Regards, Daniel
Actually, small registrars are reseller of these big expensive registrars. For example Namecheap is reseller of enom.com.
The people who are paying those prices are companies who registered their domains long time ago when there were few registrars and they don't care about the "small" difference.
Price is not a problem for large corporations who feel safer with large established registrars like NetSol. A tech won't get in trouble with the boss for renewing with NetSol but may get questioned if he trusts the corporate domain with an outfit called name-CHEAP or Go-Daddy.
It is just a free economy and since the domain registrar market is an open market, you see registrars setting varied prices. In the end, the basic product is the same, you may just be paying for support or some other add-on freebies. Like how it is when you go eat a 99cents burger from McD or eat a $199 burger from a high end restaurant. In the end, it may just taste about the same.
Exactly, for example I overpaid for a few .coms a while back at register, but in the end I got great customer support, then got a full refund like 20 days after I regged on all of my names almost immediately, which is pretty much unheard of.
Because some people have too much money & they should give it to me. Pros: You save a ton of money Cons: Register.com doesn't get a good amount of money off you That's the only 2 I can think off. They stay in business because a domain costs about $6 & they sell it for $7 to $10, & Godaddy usually trys to upsell you with hosting or something else.
