For someone with a long domain name, which would be better from a SEO point of view? NewYorkCityBakingSupplies.com or New-York-City-Baking-Supplies.com Obviously neither one of those are real domain names, just exaples. thanks for any help you can provide.
Don't make the name too long and don't use more than 2 hyphens are my general thoughts. In your example I would go for nycbakingsupplies.com - its shorter and sharper.
I agree that shorter is better but its not always possible. For a longer name is it better to use the hyphens or not to? Thanks again.
If you want somebody to remember the domain from a magazine advert or if you tell it to them over the phone then its easier with no hyphens. If you are only marketing on the internet then it doesn't matter as much i guess. Don't use more than 2 or maybe 3 hyphens though, how many really good sites have more than 2 hyphens in the domain?
thanks for your advice. i was thinking about from a soley SEO point of view as in helping the search engines to find the site using the keywords within the domain name.
there are a couple of good threads on here about using hyphens or not. You should read throught some of those before you decide.
The question is if the same seo rules that apply today, will apply tomorrow. So my advice is always to go with whatever brands you best. IMO dashes belong in the folders (if even there) - not in the domain.
