Hi, im fuser fom Argentina and i want to start a political blog. Here in Argentina, its hard to express your opinion without a retaliation, warning, etc. etc..

So, if i register a .com domain with whois privacy, hire an american or british hosting, Can i be tracked down?

I mean, the only way is by tracking my IP from my ISP when i make a post right? Is there a way to hide this? Maybe by posting though a proxy?

    Thanks a lot,

    fuser

it seems that life in argentina is pretty hard. if you get a domain with privacy and hosting in the US no one can track it and you can post through email on the blog ;)

    She actually won? Wow.

Fuser - PM me with what you have in mind and I can set you up with something that they won't be able to trace back to you.

Besides the domain name you also have to consider getting a secure host that won't give you up. For registering the domain besides doing a private registration I would fake all of your contact information.

Christian, yes, she won using fraud nad illegitimate propaganda.. They gave money to the poor people that voted her

    bluemouse2, lol... actually they do...

If i register a domain at domainsite using private whois, hire an american hosting plan using paypal and a public wifi spot to publish, im i bulletproof?

I mean, i will not publish, upload or post using my home ISP... only using public wifi spots far from home..

    Thanks everybody for the help!

I wouldn't worry about using a public spot. They would have to know where you are transmitting from within 200m to find you on a wireless, and that's a very small spot to find when covering a huge area. And they could only do that if they knew your IP, which they would have to get from your ISP and hosting companies - which would require a subpeona (which will be ignored since it's coming from that government anyways). And even then, I doubt they have the technology to pinpoint your location like you can do in the US.

Use private whois records, but put false contact information on the records anyways in case they petition the registrar.

For a host I can set you up with one in LA that won't ask any questions as long as you don't put porn sites on their servers.

Most hosting companies will take Paypal.

I doubt they would get the data from Paypal.

For your domain, you can just change the registry records to have a false name/address/phone number/etc - just keep the email address correct so domainsite can contact you.
