Question About Displaying Adsense On A Forum

    Hi,

I'm thinking about displaying adsense on some positions on my forum, but I have a few questions.

Should I display adsense to all people on the forum, or just guests? Or is it not possible to do this? I think Digital Point Forums displays adsense on the forum to guests in quite visible positions, but otherwise it displays smaller adsense units to members.

Also I'm using vBulletin, so would it be free to make the modifications to my forum? Or do you have to pay to access the adsense mods?

    Thanks for any help

I dont use vBulletin, so i cant tell you how to do it, but i can tell you what I do:
I show 99% of my ads to non-members/guests only. When members sign-up, virtually all the ads are no longer displayed. also, i use Adsense and Kontera.. I've found that Kontera earns as much and sometimes even more than Adsense.

Okay thanks for the reply, very helpful.

I was basically thinking of displaying some auto-rotate banners on some quite hidden positions (top/side of the forum, so they don't get in the way) which will be on show to guests and members.

Then I was thinking of displaying adsense for non-members on the front page of the forum and also in each of the threads. Would this be easily done?

    Thanks for any more replies/help

Disabling ads as an incentive for members is quite good if your forum provides some good content. Guests who visit on a daily basis would get annoyed of the adverts and so there would be less when they register. This could, therefore, be a potential incentive.

I agree mostly but I actually make more now with Adbrite inline text links instead of Kontera. Kontera is OK but hasn't paid well imho.

And I would display ads to everyone at first. See how it goes...members might hate it and then when you remove them for logged in members you can be the hero.

I like to remove the most invasive ads to registered users, but not remove them completely.
