I was wondering what do you do when you originally used a category dump for your site and now you have alot of empty categories would you just redo the structure by getting rid of the empty categories and changing the names on the ones you have and on the ones you have links in wether they be featured or regular would you keep them in the original categories where they were submitted example link submitter put link in blahblahblah.com/computers_and_internet/web_directories/ but you want to change it to blahblahblah.com/web_directories/ would that make a difference
I have always felt it is the directory owners perogative (sp?) to make improvements to the structure of the directory over time. This included moving links or renaming categories. If there is an emphasis on quality, then a small change to the structure should actually benefit the submitter in the long run.
start off with fewer categories then slowly expand as they fill up. dont use the same mysql dump for all of your sites, be unique and google will prefer it. there are so many QBC dirs. out there with the same 700 category dump
another question should you import some links from one to another or just wait and I am changing names and trying to restructure the categories
if you add more categories such as paid & free directories, rather than just directories, then yes, move the links around to suit the changes.
And the more you put your touch on the structure of your directory the more it is unique in Google's eyes. So I would encourage you to make regular improvements in this area.
I usually use the same categories even if some are empty. You never know, someone might submit a link in it.
