I understand the concept of adsense and how it is supposed to work, but google goes out on a lim to protect it's advertisers. Obviously content is not king in this case. Let's say I talk about a topic, but I do it negatively. Like for example, let's say I have a blog where I talk about cannon digital cameras. But when I talk about these cameras I say they're the worst on the market, no one should buy them, etc etc etc. Is google adsense going to put on ads for cannon cameras? In this case, no one will click them and it's not good for advertisers. So what's the deal with that? I'm very cautious about putting this on my site because I don't want to end up getting disabled because adsense isn't smart enough to understand that I'm talking negatively about something.
*scratches head* I'm not sure how I'm wrong because I just said that adsense ads are based on content. Right? Care to clarify by writing more than one line?
you are entitled to your free opinion. you can review any product you wish as long as they are honest and credible review. google will still serve ads based on your content. however, if you have a site with baseless acquision and slander, then you will have problem.
I understand your concern but Google, in my experience, is not smart enough to read the intent of your content. If you have content about cameras, negative or positive, you'll get ads about cameras -- but not necessarily just about the camera you are reviewing negatively, especially if you also include some positive comments about other cameras that are better. I'm guessing that you want your visitors to click on camera ads of some kind. Otherwise, there's no need for Adsense on your site. Surely, your whole site is not about negative reviews. You shouldn't be concerned about Google not approving your site. Create your content, place your Adsense ads, wait a couple of days for the ads to become relevant to your content, and enjoy. Understand, however, that blogs often are difficult to make money on, because there are repeat visitors who become blind to the existence of ads.
My guess is adsense is not smart enough to read language. You need quite advance AI to do that, so it would probably still display cannon ads.
Well its a good point and even if your reviewing a product and possibly expressing your view and disappontment of it i think as long as you dont use profanity and dedicate your whole site to trashing products then i dont think adsense or the companies would have a problem as you are entitled to say if you think something is bad, it will still probably generate clicks for you too because it builds curiosty. If you say a product is bad, it doesn't mean everyone else will think the same, hence you still generate revenue, google adsense still does its thing and possibly the website selling cameras for example gets a sale from someone who thought differently to you.
ahh, well, my site isn't about reviews. I just gave that as an example. Let me think of something that would give an overall negative image. Politics or religion would work good. Let's say I talked about the flaws of a particular political party or ideology. The whole site will have have a negative tint toward the content. So let's say I'm against the "Blah Party" in politics. I take about how the blah parties views on things are wrong, etc etc etc. All my readers will be people that don't like the blah party. But I'm guessing all the ads that will come up will be related to the blah party.
If adsense began running ads where companies could diss their rivals as much as they wanted, then you could have perfectly suited ads but it would be a lawsuit frenzy throughout the world. I know of a website that promotes awareness against goverment control and it shows ads from one of the ads companies, possibly adsense, and the ads are pro for a particular politician in america, but if the anti government control website actually cared and had a clue they would know that the guy who appears in the ads on their site is a US government plant and strategically placed by the governnment itself, so the website is not true to its point. So if you wanted to run a website that talks negatively of paypal or godaddy for example then you cant expect relevant ads for them to be advertising services negatively, if you run adsense its naturally going to place adsense for what you may be writing about.
This may not be the best example, but visitors to your site may be interested in ALL views, positive and negative, about your topic. You may provide the negative, but your Adsense ads may provide alternative views that they are looking for. They may want to hear ALL sides to the issue. As a real example, I have a page on my site that has an overall negative view of a certain kind of consumer product and warn against it but, because the price is cheap, I suggest that buying the product might be okay if the quality/price tradeoff is acceptable. The Adsense ads on that page are, of course, about the product. My CTR on that page is consistently in the 60%-70% range -- the highest on my site.
Take for instance, MotorTrend or Car and Driver magazine. They often have a lot a negative comments on cars they review, but often the very same car is advertised. The fact is that most people often take review with a grain of salt and decide on their own. So, if you are reviewing a particular camera model, and adsense puts an ad linking back to that manufacturer's or retailer's site, some folks will click it to decide for themselves.
What you are talking about is coming, though not for some time. The next wave in the search engines is called the "semantic web" in that they will be able to tell intent (or something close). It is currently under development now, but the idea would be to serve ads not only based on content, but also intent. So in your case, they would serve Nikon ads for your negative post on Cannon. Still a ways off (i.e., at least over a year or more), but this is the direction they are heading.
You worry too much. There are sites all over the Internet that have product reviews, many of them negative, that also have Adsense. Google only cares that your site provides useful content, and negative reviews or negative opinions are equally as useful and interesting as positives. You're being WAY too careful.
Money is important to me, and with google disabling accounts with very little in my regard to do about it, I'm very cautious. Google is a for profit business, as I am a for profit business. My goal(as is googles) is to make money. Advertisers don't like paying for people that click on their ads that hate their product. It's just a fact of life.
Like I said, you worry WAY, WAY, WAY too much. I've been doing Adsense since it started, and I'm telling you that you have nothing to worry about -- if you'll listen.
Yes, it is possible to have a page in your website with negative views toward a product or company and get google ads for that same product. But Google will not hold this against you. It is true that you would probably not get many clicks from these ad. If this issue comes up you may want to just leave the Google ads off of that particular page.
Adsense ads displays depending on keywords and not on the content.. Adsense is not human that can understand what you are talking...
When in doubt, think along the line of readers. If you site is well liked by human readers, it's good even if you give negative feedback. As for Adsense, theme of your page determines types of ads to be displayed.
