question about cold calling, sales letters and "walkin-ins"

    hi folks,

    i am a web designer and i'm planing on reaching out to a specific niche in my town. i was thinking about going door to door and talk to the business owners about what i have to offer but then i thought that it might not be the greatest idea since they might be busy, they might see guys like me 123 times a week etc.

    then i was thinking about sending them a short sales letter and follow up on the phone in a few days.

    what is your opinion, what is the better approach to get in touch with small business owners and get a few min of their time.
