I post this in other forum, but nobody seem able to answer my question. I just bought a CMS script from someone I don't know. its yahoo answer clone. If just in case the person dies, and his website closedown or going out of business, will my website is closing down too. I confuse, will my website still working? thx
That's a really weird question.. Anyway, it depends on the type of protection he has on the script. If it requires that your script pings his website, then yes, it could be that your site will no longer function, unless you're able to grab his domain.. This is best asked to the person who wrote the script.
When you buy script, is that usually script for life? He sent me the "download link" and i have already uploaded or installed the script on my hosting. and it work. Everytime i manage my site, i have to go to mysite.com/admin, just like blogging to wordpress with mysite.com/wp-admin, Im afraid soon or later i cant login to my admin area. I just want my site to be independent. Or am i already? thx
Again, it depends on what kind of protections he put in. You should ask him. If you look at the source files and everyting is readable (no garbled up text / binary) then you should be fine, otherwise, it's possible and you have to ask him.
don't worry so much... when he dies he has probably subscribed PayPal for hosting and domain payments... so the site will be up If I die it would be like that...
