Question About Clicking Own Ads.

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by conorod, Jun 24, 2008.

I understand that google adsense publishers cannot click on their own ads. But I wanted to know what would happen if for example, my brother(who uses the same computer) clicked on one of my ads? Does adsense ban you straight away or do you get a warning or a chance to explain?

If you find about such clicks notify Google of that. They are usually very helpful and will not take any action or give money for click, but if they come to know about repeated offense they will ban you straightway.

It takes a lot of click before they ban your account.

Publishers use excuses like that all the time. So, they would most likely not believe it.

If you're aware it happened make sure to email Adsense support and tell them exactly when and where the clicks happened. Also, there are plenty of ways you can safeguard from accidental clicks on your home network. for one, you can block Adsense ads in your computers hosts file.

I clicked my ads few times because I was interested in what they were saying. Never banned, nor a warning. Perhaps my IP has changed...

Your not trace by IP address only. I think google is getting or storing a file like the free trial once it expired you can't use it in the same computer unless you reformat it.

A friend of mine purchase an IP changer and change his IP after few clicks. He also clear the cache and the cookies before changing or switching to a new IP address. Google BANNED him before reaching $100.

Sometimes they serve you some kind of warning email - sometimes not!

Yeah, it's probably a combination of IP address, cookies set in your browser, the source of the traffic that resulted in the clicks, and the actual pattern of clicking. They almost certainly have algorithms that model the behavior of a visitor to your site who takes an interest in an ad and the way someone who is just interested in clicking the ads behaves.

Nice accurate information  Google has even posted something about NOT contacting them if you inadvertently click one of your ads, they even indicated in the post that they realize we all make mistakes and may happen to click our ads...if you do it repeatedly, trouble, but they can probably tell an accidental click and don't ban you!

If you think your brother might be a problem, just install adblock, if you use firefox...and they won't even show up.
