Question about backlinks

It is a common knowledge that search engines like Google value backlinks coming from relevant authority websites. In this regard, I have a question.

We come across many services for submission to article directories, social media websites, PAD sites etc for gaining backlinks from 'authority' sites. These sites contain articles on all topics on the earth, so they can not have relevance to any niche.

If the links are not relevant, in what way would they benefit or damage your link building efforts?

I had submitted some of my test sites to such directories and social media sites using my keywords in the anchor text; however, I haven't seen any appreciable change in my rankings for those keywords - even 2-3 months after submission. The keyword are not that competitive.

I would appreciate any honest replies, especially from those people who do not sell such services.

After 2-3 months, if sites has no improvement in ranking then you should do more extra work to get ranking. you should try to get links from relevent sites.

To improve you’re ranking on search engine result page then make sure to increase back word link through off page optimization

Have you made sure that the links are not 'nofollow'?

I wouldn't spend that much time worrying about this - unless this is your only job - concentrate on creating a good site and getting traffic rather than PR.

If it was me I'd rather spend a little bit of money getting a link on a site that I know will bring in the right sort of customers and go from there.

    Good luck!

    Cheers, p.
