I would say you will see a noticable effect in about 3 months. There may be an imediate effect but its not worth writing home about.
See that's what I had been thinking up until a few days ago... I have recently spent a great deal of time getting a fair amount of good links to one of my clients sites who had never done well in Google and now all of a sudden he's doing pretty well... The PageRank is still very very low, which makes me think he's either doing well because of: 1) Google is giving weight to all those great links fairly soon (within a couple weeks or sooner), just not showing that as a PR or shown backlink update for a while... or 2) Google just made another small algo tweak that has benefited the site in question and this is not related to the linking campaign of the past couple of weeks. Thoughts?
Thoughts? You might be better off hiring a Phsycic Ok I think its a good chance that those extra backlinks modified something, perhaps a BLOOD of some sort.
Not really. Most pure speculation is pretty pointless, I agree, but if you're going to engage in it, informed speculation is at least better than uninformed speculation...
I was joking. My way of saying its hard to tell for sure. ---------------------------------------------- It sucks when you have to explain your jokes.
I realize you were joking, DS... the comment just struck a chord with one of my pet peeves. There are only a couple actually... one is that annoying "M$" thing; another is speculation that has no basis in any existing reality beyond bones and tea leaves. Not meant as an attack on you, by the way...
Uhm, Google updates backlinks and pagerank about daily. They just dont report it externally. The toolbar might say you have pagerank 0, but if you are well found in Google, then you probably have an intern pagerank a bit higher. Anchor texts and everything are important, but the most important thing to Google are still links with good neighbourhood and PR. A few good links from high PR related to your topic could bring your website to the first spot in Google in at least a week.
? ok so just my methodology. I think speculation is good as Google isnt exactly handing out SEO tutorials and mine is normally based on personal experience or occasionally stuff I have heard which I think fits the facts and warrents thought. After all, if you never had theories you would never get a chance to disprove or prove them. and in this case I have always noticed a significant lag between adding backlinks and gaining serp positions so thats hardly Tea leaves.
*sigh* Darksat - you posted a tongue-in-cheek comment. I responded largely in kind but also digressing to a minor personal peeve. As I said above, it's not attacking you or your comment -- it was merely triggered by it. As for speculation, most of what we do in forums like this one is speculation. When it's based on some contact with reality, that's part of the fun. When it's based solely on rumor or conspiracy theories, it's annoying. That's all. And none of this is in reference to what you said specifically, except that the "psychic" comment triggered mine.
I've seen the benefit in SERPs of a single high PR backlink within 24 hrs. No visible effect on PR or displayed BL's in Google for at least 3 months.
