Hello everyone. I just have a simple question. Is putting you site in web directories considered as having back links? In other words, if i put my site in several directories, will each of those directories count as a back link?

    always appreciates the help, thanks.

Depends on how well the directory is running and getting promoted..
A dead directory with load of links in it does not give a good backlink.

Consider submitting in high PR directories and do it manually, it will help.

if the directories accept your link and are indexed in google, it will count as a backlink.

Just try to avoid the bad ones. If they're full of spam sites and adult content then they're probably not worth being in, unless you're a spam site or adult content too.

If your site name is one of your main keywords it will improve the linkback value for directories that link by site name. A good keyword rich domain is your friend for those that link by showing the URL and for article resources boxes too.

Directories submission is always a great source for making back links as well as traffic for a website.

I think it'll be better if you spend more time on updating your site and promoting your sites through article submission, link exchange, etc. Directory submission is a bit waste of time.

hhmm. very interesting. it seems there are mixed reactions. but from what I understand from everyone is that not all directory listings will help (or count as a back link), but it sure can't hurt. then i will try to list my site in as many directories as possible.

The way, if you have a directory, please submit to mines so that I can submit my own in yours. I have right now probably about 50 directory sites in my own directory so I am going to start my listings with those, and then try to find others. here is the link.

thanks everyone for your response and advice.
