Question about anchor text.

Discussion in 'Google' started by redigit, Apr 7, 2008.

I rank well for "blue widget," but I also want to rank for "red widget." If I get a bunch of links with "red widget" for the anchor text, will it effect my rankings for "blue widget?"

    Thanks

If you are concentrating more on red widgets rather than blue widgets, your serp may goes down slightly
But now much more effect will take place.

As long as you don't sacrifice links that contain "blue widget" for "red widget", your blue widget rankings won't be affected.

You should create a different page for red widgets. Then you can optimize each page individually for its own key phrase. In the long run, this will work a lot better than trying to optimize the same page for both of them

Whatever you do, please don't start targeting purple widgets, because that's my niche. :p

No, you will just get higher in SERPs for "red widget".
There are a lot of sites that optimize for a dozens of keywords, it's not something new or strange.

It won't affect your rankings as long as you continue your link building using both of your targeted keywords as anchor text on your link building campaign.

Your earlier made links won't allow to affect your rankings on Blue, and you should start to get high quality links on Red widgets.

"blue widget" and "red widget" are similar keywords, and se understand keyword variation, so I think it won't be so hard for you to get good ranking for both.

Also include "red" in title tag, if it is not there.

if you get a bunch of quality links for red widget, it will surely rank to SE..

And in connection to your first anchor text.. there's no effect!

just continue link building for your both anchor text..

for it to be consistent in high ranking..

For sure you will rank better on the targeted keyword, but it will also help you for the other one as it's using the same targeted keyword variations.

No your rank would go down slightly for your lack of continued development. If you spend the same time promoting the widget as before then your rank would not decrease.
