Question about an old design

Hey folks,

I'm preparing a phpld template site, and one of those templates (i'm designing) is the one of the old Zeal dead for now 8-9 months, so i thought, is that a good idea to use the old Zeal template, could looksmart get angry for that?

If the old design is copyrighted, whether it's live or not now, you still can't simply steal their design. So yes, they could "get angry for that". I don't know exactly how close that template is though, b/c I'm not familiar w/ their old design.

 

lol it is very close, i was an editor their for 1 year so i know how it does looks like, i just changed the layout style for hte links thats all...

But actually i don't think their are any problems, if their are i will just remove the template from my list and it will be just 5 days of working "lost" ( cant loose anything when we design something ).

Well seems like noone don't even recognize it.... I guess its a "good" news

 

seems okay, but im not sure abt the copyrights and laws with zeal, make sure u modify it appropriately
or like go on with the design, if there is dispute u can either change it shdnt be a issue

 

So how close is close when it comes to page template designs? As my web design skillz improve I look for design elements from "big" very professional sites that i like and adapt them a bit, usually taking elements form a few sites to amalgomate my own design.

By "taking" i dont mean an outright rip but some sites can be quite obviously inspired by others.

is that supposed to be the inspiration for the site in the first post??? Cause i dont see it? maybe the color blue is similar but that's it. Or did you edit the link after so as not to expose your, ummm, plagiarism ..... sorry I mean inspiration.

 

Sorry it was my inspiration for http://www.irkawebdesign.com , well eheh my secret is revealed for that one....

For Zeal well my inspiration was Zeal itself, im sure im the only one who kept screenshots and some cat structure of the old zeal directory on DP...

 

I wouldn't worry bout those sites, ikra. There is nowhere near enough similarity there.

 

Well i don't worry about my sites, 8/9 of them are fully designed by me. that di.fm thing gave me the idea for the buttons thats all lol and there is nothing so impressive about it...
