If I intend to sell an ebook with information on how to obtain certain products for free... Is it illegal or can I be sued if I link to these companies sites that offer these particular free products. My plan is to sell the information on how to find these sites for a small amount, but I didn't know if that could be construed as something else? Thanks!
Hi, There are two potential liabilities that I see: 1. Linking to products, sites or services that are illegal could potentially get you into trouble for promoting them. 2. There have been cases where people get sued for linking to other sites, specifically linking "deep" into the site. I think the risk of this would be low, especially as most people like free publicity. Here are some good resources for the legality of linking: A. http://www.ala.org/Template.cfm?Sec...Management/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentID=25306 B. http://www.netlitigation.com/netlitigation/linking.htm 3. I suppose it is possible for some people to get mad that you are making money by telling other people how to find free stuff. I don't know what type of information you are telling people how to find so I can't say for sure... but I would think they would like more people accessing their free products (otherwise they would charge for it or remove it). Assuming someone does get mad I am having a hard time figuring out what possible claim they would have against you, but I suppose it is possible for angry people to come up with a justification. Is there any specific type of lawsuit you are worried about? The more info you send me the more I could help. Hope that helps and best of luck with the ebook.
