If a site has an Alexa rank of 10,000 it means there are 9,999 sites above it or the rank can be shared ? i.e.: more than 1 site with rank = 10,000.

i think the rank could be shared. its just the result of some computation.

I don't think alexa shares spots. But I would not give much credence
to alexa. It makes good ad copy or something or other, but not a true
judge as to monetary value. It is very easy to pump up your alexa
rank. In fact, some of the highest alexa sites are traffic exchanges
because they have a high volume of visitors. Not that I'm against
traffic exchanges. It's just that one can pump up the numbers.

Yes, a high alexa rank means "something," but as far as I'm concerned, one
of my most profitable domains has an alexa of like 3 million.

Not many people know this but an alexa rank is based on how many visitors you get to your site, who have the Alexa toolbar installed. So a high rank is a good indication on traffic, but a visit only counts through alexa is the user has the toolbar.
