I was going around checking out on a few things. One of the things I try to make it a point to check is my alexa ranking. Now I know that a few days ago my alexa ranking was fluctuating from 1.7 mil to 2.1 mil. When I just went to check my alexa ranking a few minutes ago. It claims there is no data available. Is this just because they are getting ready to crawl and update my site. I did make a few changes to the site but the site never seen any downtime even with all of the changes I made. Can anyone help on this please and thank you.
so I guess my asumption would be correct then they droped it to re crawl the page. I checked again a few minutes ago and my site has some stats back on it. It would be nice if they told us this before hand so we knew not to check stats at a certain time. Oh well cant win them all.
Alexa means very little to most people. It is an indication to other webmasters of whether you lie about your traffic or not. It is not accurate by any stretch, but it is a good preliminary indication of what is or is not happening at a certain site. Because it is controlled by the attachment of the Alexa code to a browser, it cannot ever be accurate. Some virus scanners will flag the Alexa toolbar (AVG especially), as possible malware which will discourage many from using the toolbar in Internet Explorer. So for those visitors your Alexa rank will not change or be effected in any way. Sparky (The Firefox add on) does not have that same issue, but way more people (average end-users) just use whatever browser is on their computer, never knowing or understanding that they have any other choice. Alexa can be used as a tool to attract certain advertisers. For the less than savvy business you can use it to entice them into buying ad space or banner impressions. More knowledgeable advertisers will take it into consideration, but will not advertise with you based on Alexa only. Unless your Alexa score is under 80,000 (and I mean WAY under 80,000) you are not considered a "player" to the big dogs anyway. Even that and $2.50 won't buy you a latte at Starbucks on its own. There is much more to a money making website than an Alexa score. Some people are obsessed with it, I know I have been at times. Now, it is just a hobby for me to watch it go down with the effort I put forth, but I put no actual stock in it. And they do fluctuate wildly from time to time. No cause for alarm there.
