Hi all. Im a complete new comer to using AdWords and also to this forum. I wonder can anyone advise me? I recently bought some books on AdWords in an attempt to educate myself on how it works and how i can use it in business. The books were Google AdWords for Dummies and the Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords. Both are great books but there is one major problem. These books show readers how to use the old Keyword tool for research etc and as you all know Google now only offers the new keyword tool to users. So basically now i cant seem to proceed further with these books which is a shame as i really want to train myself in this. My questions to all of you guys is: Q1. Are there any books (in particular) or other products you are aware of that provide in depth AdWords training (although start with beginners in mind) that deal with the up to date uses on the new keyword tool as opposed to the old one? Q2. Can anyone offer me any advice on how to continue using the dummies guide (as otherwise its excellent) but adapt the information for use with the new keyword tool. I.E. is there anything out there that will show me how to apply the old interface directly onto the new one? Its been so frustrating as im keen to learn about this! Any advice greatly appreciated and many thanks for taking time to read my query. Dave80.
The 'new' keyword tool is not that different to the 'old'. what are you trying to do that you think you can't do on the new one?
hi Magda - thanks for the reply. Basically im just trying to learn how it works. The books i bought outline it step by step but they use the old keyword tool. I need something that will help me apply the old tool functions directly to the new tool so that i can continue training myself on it. Any suggestions?
I have been working with AdWords for over a year now and I found that the best way to learn was reading blog posts and watching "how to" videos on youtube and really just diving in head first. The problem with books is, though they may be great when published, are outdated very quickly in the ever-changing PPC industry. Plus the online guides are free and are everywhere. If you are really into the books though, they are still great for gaining an overview of AdWords for beginners. You will just miss out on all the little changes like the updated keyword tool, the changes to the reporting center and so on. But those can be picked up really quick once you start playing around with an account. Like i say this is what worked for me and I am by no means an expert but I hope it helps.
Dave, Adwords is a software application. Like all good apps, it evolves and changes. That's what happened to the keyword tool. I know you're probably confused because your books show you something and you don't see it exactly the same way because of the change. The basics are the same however, it's just a different interface just like Word changed their interface over the years. I don't think you want to go back to a DOS interface. The real problem is not that these books can hardly keep up. They're mostly software manuals. You can learn any software relatively easy without ever cracking a book or ebook in this case. I understand however that if you don't use it very often, you'll forget and be lost every time. I used to sell software I developed but most users would use it infrequently (nature of it) and they found it confusing although I did not think so. Few ever upgraded every year (new data, again nature of product). One even told me and paid me to send him a spreadsheet file of what he wanted when the software did exactly that. So I suspect it's a similar thing for you. But the real problem is that few of these books explain the real nuts and bolts which is proper keyword use and creating good ads. Well, that's why I wrote one. You'll figure out how to get around the interface naturally and fairly quickly. What you need to learn is how to create effective campaigns.
Dave80 go through all the Adwords Help pages and videos. That will also help you 'get started'. I can't say there's any definitive resource to use (to be 100% ready for Adwords) because you'll be doing a lot of testing of what ads/keywords/landing pages work best. The brunt of the work will be figuring out how to keep clicks high AND ROI in an acceptable range as well. It's easy to spend big $$ on Adwords but to get ROI from it is another story.
You should go to Google Adwords Learning Center to study and train your knowledge. In addition, you can find or buy some Google Adwords vouchers to practice. Time by time, you will be Google Adwords Professional
Anyway what kind of blog is yours ? What is the page rank ? And chose the words according to your niche .

Hey pal, dont overstress yourself regarding Adwords. Sales and promotions are more about helping others not about tricks of the trade that these ebooks offers.
