I'm currently not participating in any display network advertising, only search and search partners through Adwords. I have just a few questions. I've seen competitors show images on some of their advertisements on Search. I understand that these might be product extensions, of which they are linked to the competitors Google Merchant account. However, within my Adwords Ad Groups, I have the ability to create a "Image Ad." I've researched this quite a bit and Google says that the only Search Network feature for images is on "Image search pages," which would only show up if I were searching for images instead of websites. This is what I'm trying to achieve, the football images on the right. If these are strictly product extensions then that will clear up this question fairly easily. The next issue is what are the "Image Ads" for the search network then? I'll point it out here: I went ahead and created two for A/B testing purposes. I let them run for a few months and here is the data: I've labeled the corresponding Display Ad's (I feel like they shouldn't be called this, because they aren't in the display network). You can see that the only response I've had is from the Google Search Partner network. My questions are, what are these ads exactly and can I track where they are showing up at? Why are they called Display Image Ads when they are located on the search network? Are these the same type of image ads that show up where the footballs are showing in the search results? Thank you for your help!
I've found out that Image Ads are created for the Display Network, however some Google Search Partners have websites that are treated as Display Sites. I'm assuming that the footballs are product extension images then.
