question about adding other content to sites

Hi, I decided to experiment with producing a page with a goal to actually generate some income from it.... probably didn't pick a good subject as I think that the web is saturated on the topic but oh well, what's done is done.

Anyway, the question is, is it acceptable to the se's to add content that isn't directly related to the main theme of the site.

For example, my site is entitled "newbie guide to email hoaxes, scams, spams and urban legends". What if I add pages with content related to other internet newbie information that starts drifting away from the whole email theme? Does it matter at all? What if I went compleatly in a different direction altogether?

I can't see it mattering much but if the search engines are looking for any kind of consistancy in a site I guess it could.... that's why I'm asking.

    Thanks,

    Lisa

p.s. post is a little scattered today - just like the author :p sorry if it's hard to read.

Some themes are looser than others. I don't believe it will matter all that much in the overall scheme of things. IMHO. :)

Sigma, content on the internet is something very personal in the sense that it does matter if you go off the board or it simply doen't matter. It has everything to do with the way you plan and organize the content. The search engines WON'T devaluate your site (and i'm waiting for any seo professional to prove me wrong here) for providing content that 's not 100% related to the theme of the site as long as it's content rich and informative.

I have no real proof, but your page should be in some way related to your site topic. considering just one page, you just have to make sure that it's optimized for some keywords, and that the content you add has something to do with these keywords
