Question about adding new content to my sites

I just want to say that I have learned alot in the short time I have been on these forums and really appreciate it, however I still have so many questions :).
I know that constantly adding fresh content is important and thought I would add a new section on my site of some of my personal favorite online resources. However, while these resources are geared toward my target audience (moms) they don't really fit the niche of my site. So would adding content that is off topic hurt my site as far as pagerank and seo is concerned or help it since it is fresh content?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Just add content that your readers find interesting, forget about the search engines.

Add content that is of interest to your target audience. Don't focus too much on SEO. You can achieve great traffic from "link bait" and word of mouth.

Hi..welcome to DP:). Firstly I would suggest you try and make site useful for your visitors and not the search engines alone. Google likes the sites that concentrates on satisfiying its online visitors. So, SEO Copyrighting is must for your site. And why would you want to add off topic contents on you site?.Like you own a site on "Work from home" and you add irrelavant stuffs like computer software, its a total waste. Add fresh contents but relevant to your site :) Understand man? Hope this helps:)

Content that is not relevant to your website will surely not affect PR. PR is all about links, especially inbound links and the quality/relevancy of them.

It is advisable to add constantly new content that your visitors find interesting and that attracts them to sit on that page and read through it, giving you a shot at their interests.

    Hi!

It's a pity there is no website URL in your post in order we could evaluate the situation and give better advice.

At the moment I can offer you website content for licensing, i.e. 3D screensavers. Studies show that our screensavers and wallpapers draw the following demographic: educated and affluent, predominantly (65%) female, aged between 20 and 55.

If you are interested please email me at sales@all3dsavers.com

    Wish you luck!
    Cheers

    Helen

Can someone explain to me what "link bait" means?
Also thanks for all the great advice! I think many of us tend to worry so much about what will help and hurt us as far as search engines go that it is easy to forget the most important aspect, building a web site that will keep your targeted visitors coming back.

"Forget about search engines" is another extreme. SE is planted in every webmaster's brain nowadays :) You can't help but think what effect it might have on your SERP, before you do anything to your site.

Now you can't do stuff simply to trick the search engines. I think a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself before adding that content how you would explain to a Google employee. If you can't even convince yourself that it is for the visitors rather than SE's, you probably want to leave it out. Having said that, I don't think a niche has to be narrowly defined all the time; many niche sites can and will expand eventually.

Well you should consider another problem too: having offtopic content will make your ads less targeted.
And you could experience a drop in your CTR.

    Try to keep it balanced.

    Hi,

you can buy PLR articles, and an article rewriter, and have a constant update of free content to put on your site.

I agree. Also isn't it true that the more relevant pages you have, the more favorable to Google?
