Just install phpbb3 in a subfolder called forum or something.
If you follow the readme it's easy to install.

adding a forum to your website isn't hard at all.
try out SMF, download it here.
then get yourself a nice theme that matches your site.
add some cool mods to give it a little ooomf.

    your all set. :D

I suggest using PHPBB3. Its the best (free) forum software available.

If your hosting has C/Panel, you could use Fantastico for an easy installation.

The version that Fantastico installs might be several versions behind the current version. That means the forum could be open to attacks as soon as its installed.

Fantastico could be used, but the install needs to be updated as soon as possible - which means right then. And if your going to update the forum, why not go ahead and install the most recent version to start with.

And if the person is using Fantastico to install the forum, they may not know "how" to update. So they are left with an insecure forum and do not even know it.

Does that will everything it installs. One of the reasons why do all the installing and upgrading of programs and scripts on our servers. Takes time but saves a lot of headache down the road.

    - First decide the location of the forum i.e forums.yourwebsite.com etc.
    - Select the forum software.
    - Follow the simple installation steps to install it. You will get installation guide from installation files itself.
