Europe is trying to set up a competitor for Google. Quearo (Latin for 'I search') is being created with European funds. It seems like French president Chirac is leading this project. "We must take up the challenge posed by the American giants Google and Yahoo," Chirac said, discussing the importance of technology to Europe's economy. "For that, we will launch a European search engine, Quaero." http://www.infoworld.com/article/06/01/13/73900_HNgooglekiller_1.html Damn Europeans. Creating a search engine that never will be a success with my tax money.
Second step will be, EU will setup some ridiculous standard on search engines and only those fullfilling it, certainly only Quearo, will be allowed to be used. That's how the EU thing works.
They're hiding it According to SearchEngineWatch, it is supposed to be on http://www.thomson.net/EN/Home/Quaero/ (but as they are hiding it, it is not)
I’ll reveal this to you. I’m Portuguese “From Portugal†and I use A9 70%, google 25%, yahoo and MSN 2.5%. I don’t think that we here in Europe will rush over to another search engine just because it’s European. That’s me anyway!!!! I think the search market is already bloating with search engines, that in 99% of cases don’t even have 1% market share.
